“When I do my job properly, people that were afraid or hesitant to smile will be walking around with a perm-grin. As a proud West Kelowna dentist, I would like to help changing people’s lives, not just their appearance. My goal and my priority is to help my clients live better, more fulfilled lives. And that starts with taking your smile and making it ‘you’, and the objective to make it better.”
Dr. Shauna Palmer received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1993 from the University of Alberta. After 9 years of practice in Kamloops, B.C., she embarked on a journey into a functional and cosmetic approach to dentistry in Beverley Hills, California. It was here she has developed the desire to continue her dedication and training to become more proficient in creating the perfect balance between form and function.
Her journey into cosmetic dentistry began with her extensive training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies – commonly known and referred to as LVI Global. Since 2000, continuous training at LVI Global has allowed Dr. Palmer to gain more knowledge around the physiologic and neuromuscular aspects of dentistry. A physiologic/neuromuscular approach involves combining cosmetic dental treatments with the objective to balance teeth, jaw muscles, jaw joints and body posture simultaneously.
Even though Dr. Palmer is a general dentist, physiologic and holistic dentistry is the basis for most of her treatments, but especially treatment for patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMJ disorder)/facial pain) as well as for sleep apnea and orthodontics. Holistic dentistry involves considering the patient’s overall health and not just their teeth and gums. Holistic dentistry also involves the use of materials in dentistry that are less toxic such as BPA free filling materials and techniques such as safe mercury amalgam removal, as examples.
The love of the Okanagan Valley saw the return of Dr. Palmer in 2007 where she quickly purchased a practice of her own in West Kelowna. Dr. Shauna Palmer feels blessed to live and work in a place where health and beauty are major pillars of trying to make people's lives better.
