I hope this communication finds you all healthy and in good spirits!
This has been a stressful time for us all since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but you can rest assured that we are doing our part to care for our future health and safety.
The extended mandated closure has given us the time to complete the recommended additions to our office and you will be sure to notice the changes when you come in. Following the guidelines put in place by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, the Provincial Health Officer, as well as WorkSafeBC, we have implemented our working protocol to protect both our patients as well as ourselves. Here are some photos of how things are going to flow for our patients as we re-open. We may look a little scary, but we are our most definitely your same friendly dental team.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO SPOUSES, CHILDREN,CHAPERONES OR COMPANIONS WILL BE ALLOWED TO WAIT INSIDE THE OFFICE DURING THE PATIENT’S VISIT WITH US. WE WILL GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATED TIME FOR PICK UP SHOULD YOU NEED A RIDE AND ALI CAN PHONE THEM 15 MINUTES PRIOR WITH A PROVIDED CONTACT NUMBER.
Patients will be pre-screened for symptoms of COVID-19 on the telephone when booking appointments and then again upon arrival to our office. When you arrive, please knock on the door and our office manager, Ali, will hand you our “dental appointment protocol package” as per the BC Dental Association. When you have completed the Dental Patient Screening Form with a brand-new pen (our gift to you and yours to keep) please put on your mask, (also yours to keep) and knock again. Having thoroughly cleaned the rooms, waiting area and bathroom between patient use, we should be ready to unlock the door and let you in!
Based on your answers to the screening form, (signature too, please) symptom free patients will then have a quick touchless temperature check and be provided with mandatory hand sanitizer.
Ali will direct you to the appropriate room where you will be greeted by either Carrie Anne, our Certified Dental Assistant or Paige, our Registered Hygienist. Along with Dr Palmer, they will be wearing the specific PPE (personal protective equipment). As required for your procedure they will be wearing: a freshly laundered surgical cap and gown or disposable cap and gown, treatment specific mask, face shield, and gloves. Carrie Anne and Paige will seat the patient and take your mask for you to utilize again when you are ready to leave. They will put on your bib, offer you a freshly laundered blanket and safety glasses, and provide you with a rinse of either ozonated water or hydrogen peroxide.
On site we have a Surgically Clean Air unit that filters the air and kills microbes produced through aerosols in our dental treatment area. We also have a specialized dental vacuum unit that can be placed near the patient’s face to limit aerosols escaping. We have also ordered a Dryshield system which will help to remove any untraceable aerosols. Due to high demand we are awaiting its arrival.
To maintain protocol there will be no more than 2 patients in our office at one time and we have allotted extra time for procedures as well as for the additional cleaning and disinfecting required.
Following your treatment, you will rinse again with ozonated water or hydrogen peroxide, put back on your mask and use hand sanitizer before proceeding to see Ali for check-out.
This all may seem a little overwhelming but we truly have everyone’s health at heart! This protocol will also be subject to change according to our governing bodies but please bear with us.
Once again, stay safe and stay tuned!!!
Dr. Shauna and the team
